Learning to Flow with the Seasons and Cycles

“You began in water. Remember your element. Flow with things.”
– Jaiya John

Ahh, the essence of FLOW
It’s been bubbling up in so many conversations lately.
And today, I’m not referring to the FLOWpresso
(though yes, it continues to nourish us through all seasons and cycles).

Flow…
How we choose to swim upstream—
or return to the regular Practice
of softening into surrender:
to the cycle,
the season,
the moment.

School started this week in my world.

Day One: Easy and Happy.
Day Two: resistance. Cranky boys.
Day Three: flat-out refusal to get dressed…
and an accusation that I was
forcing him to drink elderberry juice.”

And honestly, I felt it too—
resistance to the new schedule,
resentment quietly bubbling beneath the surface.

But later, when they were off at school,
I remembered:
when we resist the current of flow,
we only stir up more whitewash within ourselves.

Someone recently reminded me—
our bones are the same color as the Moon.

How could we not be connected to the tides,
to the pull of something greater—
the Seasons,
the Cycles,
the changes and turns in Life?

As Jaiya John so beautifully reminds us:
“We can suffer and sing at the same time. In fact, we must.”

So here’s to the rhythm of surrender.
To our humanness, our messiness. To meeting whatever season or cycle you find yourself in—
with deep self-compassion.

And we continue,
~ Kate
